James Taylor Appears In Anti-Fracking TV Ad

James Taylor still has Carolina on his mind these days.

The singer-songwriter is starring in a TV ad for an environmental group urging North Carolina to challenge efforts to enable the exploration of natural gas through hydraulic fracturing in the state where he grew up.

The Defense Council Natural Resources said the ad began running on Thursday. A spokesman for the group would not give a price for the purchase of advertising, but said it would last at least two weeks.

The General Assembly told a panel of state regulation to create industry rules you must follow to participate in the exploration, known as fracking. Lawmakers must still take additional steps to allow drilling permits.

Taylor grew up in Chapel Hill and now lives in Massachusetts. He wrote the 1970 hit "Carolina In My Mind" status.
