Singer James Taylor speak out against fracking in North Carolina.
Taylor, who grew up in Chapel Hill, is starring in television
commercials for the Defense Council Natural Resources , the first step
in what will be a major campaign against fracking from here to the next
legislative session in May.
While " Carolina in My Mind" plays in the background , Taylor warns of
the dangers of fracking , said : " Large oil and gas are pushing the
governor and legislature to allow fracking reckless.
" Fracking is dirty and dangerous. It can poison drinking water, and the chemicals in fracking fluid are known to cause cancer."
Bob
Keefe NRDC said the ads will be published in the next two weeks at WRAL
, WTVD and WNCN well as Time Warner Cable and Pandora radio. He declined to say how much money the organization is spending on
buying advertising , but Taylor said he was not paid for appearing in
the ads.
" He has deep roots in North Carolina and is very concerned about the state," Keefe said. Taylor has been a board member of the Defense Council Natural Resources for 17 years.
Keefe
said the NRDC and other environmental groups are working on a broader
